SQUIRE SLEEP SYSTEMS APPOINTS CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER & CLOSES ANGEL FUNDING
Lee A. Surkin, MD, FACC, FCCP, FASNC, has joined Squire Sleep Systems as Chief Medical Officer. Lee A. Surkin, MD is one of an exclusive group of physicians who is triple board certified in cardiology, sleep medicine and nuclear cardiology. Seattle based Squire Sleep Systems, creators of advanced contoured therapeutic sleep surfaces, also closed their angel funding round with Trails.com founder and adventure athlete, Bryce Stevens.

Dr. Surkin has been in private practice since 1997. His cardiology practice, Cardiac Wellness Specialists, is unique in that it embraces a multifaceted approach to cardiovascular health by promoting aggressive prevention and early detection of disease. Dr. Surkin provides a comprehensive and progressive approach to achieving total health. After years of practicing cardiology exclusively, Dr. Surkin noticed direct correlations between his cardiac patients and their sleep and nutritional habits. Through integrative medicine and bringing patients and caregivers into a partnership, Dr. Surkin helps patients to become educated, empowered, proactive and responsible for their own health and wellness.
In 2009 Dr. Surkin founded Carolina Sleep, a full service sleep medicine practice offering home sleep testing, in-center testing, and comprehensive clinic evaluation and management. Carolina Sleep offers advanced sleep medicine treatments. Dr Surkin founded The American Academy of Cardiovascular Sleep Medicine in 2010 which is dedicated to furthering the knowledge and awareness of the convergence of cardiology and sleep medicine. The Academy has interest from health care professionals internationally and membership around the world.
Seattle Angel Investor and Trails.com founder Bryce Stevens decided to invest in Squire Sleep Systems after sleeping on the “Positional Therapy Sleep System” from Squire Sleep Systems for over one year. Mr. Stevens believes it has caused a large reduction in his lower back pain, in addition to getting a better night’s sleep. Mr. Stevens was co-founder of Trails.com which sold to Demand Media in 2006.
Squire Sleep Systems is expected to release their “Positional Therapy Sleep System” in early 2012. The Sleep System is designed for side sleepers and puts the body at an incline. The patented arm-channel allows the sleep system to align the spine of the human body while sleeping, and put the lower back in traction. Stress on the arm and shoulder joints are reduced so sleepers are able to find better comfort and a more restful sleep. Squire Sleep Systems is investigating the efficacy of the Positional Therapy Sleep System in the treatment of Positional Obstructive Sleep Apnea and other sleep related health issues.
